“Western chimpanzees have declined by 80% in the last 25 years”
In March 2020, I spent nearly four weeks photographing chimps in Sierra Leone at the Tacugama Chimpanzee Sanctuary. Inaugurated by Jane Goodall, this excellent institution is a lifeline for the country’s threatened population of Western chimpanzees. Victims of an illegal bushmeat trade, many orphans have been rescued by Tacugama and given a second chance in life. I have returned since then, and I will keep supporting Tacugama.
